If you're reading this blog post right now, you're probably familiar with what Effexor - also known as Venlafaxine - is. You're likely either already on the medication, or are considering your options when it comes to antidepressant medication.

For those who don't know, Effexor is an SNRI (Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) Antidepressant medication. It is used to treat depression, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorders.

Nearly 7 years ago, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Moderate Risk Depression. At this time, my doctor prescribed me Effexor. I didn't ask many questions at the time, I was simply relieved to be told that this medication was going to better my life and day-to-day experience.

Well, the next six and a half years on the medication were quite a journey - one where I learned the hard way that this medication was not going to be the answer to my problems, or help me heal my mind, body or spirit.

In fact, I experienced the most anxiety and depression while ON this medication meant to help alleviate anxiety and depression....

This is why I felt compelled to start my podcast with a 3-part series sharing about Effexor and what it's REALLY like to be on, and come off of, the medication. As I write this, I am 6 months Effexor-free after an 8 month tapering journey that was much more complex than I was told or expected (which I share all about my experience and what finally worked for me to taper in a much less debilitating way in Part 3 of this series).

In the end, it's most important to advocate for yourself when it comes to your health and explore your options.

I dive into this and the #1 question I suggest asking your doctor before committing to taking Effexor, or any antidepressant, in Part 1 of my Effexor Series on my podcast, EBBS & FLOWS with Erin. You can listen on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, or watch on Youtube!

Part 2 of my Effexor Series explores the Pros vs. Cons of being on the SNRI antidepressant medication - from my experience.

Part 3 of my Effexor series dives into my tapering journey. The details of my 3 failed attempts and finally how the bead counting method that i used to taper off completely, with FAR less withdrawal symptoms, works.

All of these episodes can be found in the links to Apple, Spotify, Amazon & Youtube!

Feel free to send me a message if you have questions or want to chat about Effexor. The biggest lesson I learned through my journey on, and coming off of, the medication is that there is a dire need for more awareness and conversation around this topic.

Xo, Erin.
